Best time to use:
Uncanny is not that uncommon of a word, I think it would be okay to use in everyday context, but not just with anyone. People our age or older would be an appropriate audience!

Rate its usefulness:
I give "uncanny" four out of five stars because although it is a more difficult word, you are able to use it in everday converstaion. However, it's not the best word ever.
